These instructions are for upgrading your server from Panopto v2.2 to Panopto Focus v3.0.  For clean installation instructions, please see Focus 3.0 Install Instructions.

Licensing

Panopto Focus 3.0 now features server and client licensing.  Before upgrading your server, you must complete the following steps to ensure that your server will function properly after installing Focus 3.0.

1. Download the following program to your Panopto server.  This program will generate a key based on certain identifiers on the server hardware.
   Download GetMachineCode.exe.
2. Locate and run GetMachineCode.exe
3. When the machine code is generated, copy the entire key and send it in an e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Our support team will generate a license key based on the machine code and respond with a license based on your service agreement with Panopto.  Once you have received the license key from support, you may continue with upgrading your server below.

Upgrade to Panopto Focus 3.0 Instructions

Focus v3.0 requires the installation of Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 prior to upgrading the Panopto software.  You can download and install .NET 4.0 before installation or run PanoptoWeb.exe, which will install .NET 4.0 for you.  Please note that .NET 3.5 SP1 and .NET 4.0 are required.  Do not uninstall .NET 3.5 SP1.

**Please make a backup of the C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Coursecast folder on your Panopto Web Server before beginning.**

Begin by extracting the ZIP file that you have received from Panopto then locate and run PanoptoWeb.exe.  The Welcome to Panopto screen will load.

1. On the Destination Folders screen the installer will automatically load your previous configuration.  We recommend that you leave the default settings.  If you would like to change storage locations, please move all of your files from the cc_data\sessions and cc_data\video folder first and then re-run the PanoptoWeb.exe and reference the new location.  Click Next when finished.
   
2. On the Application settings screen the installer will automatically load your previous configuration.  We recommend that you leave the default settings.  If the name of your Panopto server has changed, change the Web and Data server names here.  If you wish to relocate your SQL databases to another server, please do that first and then re-run the PanoptoWeb.exe installer.  Click Next when finished.
   
3. Before continuing, you must test the connection with credentials in order for the Panopto installation to proceed.  Choose Windows Authentication or enter SQL credentials and click "Test Connection". 
   Once the connection has been verified, click Next.
   
4. On the Mail and Support settings screen, enter the necessary information to specify an SMTP server for Panopto to use.  SMTP will be used to send user login information and notification to users when recordings are complete.  A support e-mail address must be specified and all e-mails will be sent from that e-mail address.  Click Next when finished.
   
5. The Panopto installer will automatically create the Domain LDAP string and specify the Domain Name.  If you wish to use LDAP for authentication change these settings, if necessary, and click Next.
   
6. Click Install to begin the installation of Panopto Focus v3.0.
   
7. When installation is finished, click Finish to close the install.
   

Upgrade Data Server Service

1. Locate and run PanoptoDataService.exe.
2. On the Destination Folders screen the installer will automatically load your previous configuration.  We recommend that you leave the default settings.  If you would like to change storage locations, please move all of your files from the cc_data\sessions and cc_data\video folder first and then re-run the PanoptoDataService.exe and reference the new location.  Click Next when finished.
   
3. Click Install to begin the upgrade of Panopto Data Server services.
   
4. Once the upgrade has completed, click Finish.
   
   
   
   **Please note that it is not necessary to upgrade the Panopto Encoder MP4 components at this time.
