2008 Web Server Installation 2.1

**Panopto CourseCast 2.1 Core is only supported on 32 bit Operating Systems. Panopto CourseCast 2.2 Premium is supported on 64 bit**

These instructions are for Windows Server 2008 Operating Systems

Hardware Requirements:

Web/Data Server (Minimal Configuration):

Operating System  Windows Server 2008 (Std., Pro., Ent.)
 Processor / Memory  Dual Core 1.6Ghz / 1GB RAM
 Network  100/1000 NIC
 Storage  See notes below

Notes: The amount of storage available on your data server will determine how many course hours you will be able to store in raw DV format, and thus the time frame within which you will be able to re-edit and re-encode existing lectures.  This does not affect the availability of the WMV streams stored on the web server

Storage Rule of Thumb:

Digital Video (DV) Quality:

Web Server Storage: Add 135GB for every 1,000 hours of web stream video that you want to make available. (135MB/hr)

Data Server Storage: Add 1.3TB for every 100 hours of DV that you want to keep. Note: Once DV is deleted, you can no longer re-edit or re-encode (13GB/hr)

High Quality Compressed (HQC) Quality:

Web Server Storage: Add 135GB for every 1,000 hours of web stream video that you want to make available (135MB/hr)

Data Server Storage: Add 54GB for every 100 hours of HQC that you want to keep. Note: Once deleted, you can no longer re-edit or re-encode (540MB/hr)

Web Ready (WR) Quality:

Web Server Storage: Add 135GB for every 1,000 hours of web stream video that you want to make available. (135MB/hr)

Data Server Storage: Add 13.5GB for every 100 hours of WR that you want to keep. Note: Once deleted, you can no longer re-edit or re-encode (135MB/hr)

**Known Issue**

Until a fix is issued, the Packager Service must be run from a command prompt window.
To do this, go to Start – Administrative Tools – Services
Find the Panopto Packager Service
Right click the Service and select Properties
Change the Startup type to Manual
Stop the service
Click OK and close the Services snap-in
Open a command prompt by going to Start – All Programs – Accessories – Command Prompt
Change the working directory to C:Program FilesPanoptoPackager Service
Type Packagerservice.exe
This process usually runs in the background as a service but due to a known bug, the process must be run in a command prompt.
We recommend adding PackagerService.exe to the Startup folder so the process will be launched automatically if the server is rebooted.
