Data Server Installation 2.1

These instructions are for Windows Server 2003/2008 Operating Systems and when installing CourseCast on one combined server or two separate servers (see Encoder install number 6 for details).

Hardware Requirements:

Data Server (Minimal Configuration):

Operating System  Windows XP, Vista, Windows Server 2003/2008 (Std., Pro., Ent.)
 Processor / Memory  Dual Core 1.6Ghz / 1GB RAM
 Network  100/1000 NIC
 Storage  See notes below

Notes: The amount of storage available on your data server will determine how many course hours you will be able to store in raw DV format, and thus the time frame within which you will be able to re-edit and re-encode existing lectures.  This does not affect the availability of the WMV streams stored on the web server

Storage Rule of Thumb:

Digital Video (DV) Quality:

Data Server Storage: Add 1.3TB for every 100 hours of DV that you want to keep. Note: Once DV is deleted, you can no longer re-edit or re-encode (13GB/hr)

High Quality Compressed (HQC) Quality:

Data Server Storage: Add 54GB for every 100 hours of HQC that you want to keep. Note: Once deleted, you can no longer re-edit or re-encode (540MB/hr)

Web Ready (WR) Quality:

Data Server Storage: Add 13.5GB for every 100 hours of WR that you want to keep. Note: Once deleted, you can no longer re-edit or re-encode (135MB/hr)
