"What happens if I enable this on my server?"

By enabling Smooth Streaming, all video is now being streamed through IIS instead of WMS (Windows Media Services). All viewing statistics are tracked in IIS instead of WMS as well.

"What changes do I need to make to prepare my server for this?"

Install IIS Media Services 4.0 (32 bit / 64 bit)

"Do I need to make any changes to my firewall?"

No. In fact, you can remove 1755 and 8080 if you like as all traffic now runs over port 80. Note: 1755/8080 are still required if you don't enable this feature)

"Can I re-encode my old content to be Smooth Stream compatible?"

Yes! Enable the feature below and re-encode any session that you want to be Smooth Stream ready
