Upgrade to Panopto Focus 4.1

These instructions are for upgrading your server from Panopto v4.0 to Panopto Focus v4.1.
If you are upgrading from Panopto v3.x, you will need to upgrade to v4.0 and then v4.1 due to changes in the SQL database.

New Software Requirements:
If you were previously on v4.0, you should already have installed these prerequisites. We recommend double checking your server configuration to ensure that they are installed to avoid any encoding issues.
Please follow the upgrade steps in order to ensure a proper upgrade of your Panopto server. Note: These are not required for previous versions of Panopto.

Licensing
Panopto Focus 3.0 introduced server licensing and this continues with v4.1. Before upgrading your server, ensure that your server currently licensed by following these simple steps:
- Log in to your Focus site with an admin account.
- Click on System on the left hand column.
- Click on Licenses in the drop down.
- Look in the upper right hand corner for the expiration date of your current Panopto license. It will look similar to this:

Please contact Panopto Support if your license has expired or Panopto Sales to purchase a new license for Panopto Focus v4.1.

Backup Instructions
Before beginning the upgrade of your Panopto server, we recommend creating a backup of the PanoptoDB_3 SQL database and Focus v3.1 files. Following these steps will ensure a complete recovery should the upgrade not complete for any reason.
Backup PanoptoDB_3 SQL Database
- If your SQL instance is installed locally, simply connect to the instance via Management Studio Express, right-click on the PanoptoDB_3 database, then go to Tasks and Backup. Run a Full Backup and ensure it completes.
- If your SQL server is not local, please contact your SQL administrator to have them run a Full Backup of the PanoptoDB_3 database.
Backup Panopto Focus v4.0 Files
- Make a backup copy of the following folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Panopto
- Place the backup copy in any other location on the Panopto system. We recommend keeping the files for a short period of time after the upgrade, but they are not required after the upgrade to v4.0 has completed.
Install Microsoft IIS Media Services
Microsoft IIS Media Services is a set of extensions for IIS 7 that allows Panopto to be highly scalable and deliver content optimized for Smooth Streaming playback.
1. Go to the IIS Media Services site by clicking here: http://www.iis.net/media
2. Click Install Using Microsoft Web Platform Installer

3. On the next page, click Install Now to install and run the Web Platform Installer. The installer should automatically run. If not, please check to sure that there are no ActiveX prompts awaiting your response.

4. On the IIS Media Services 4.0 page, click Install.

5. On the Web Platform Installation page, read the terms and click I Accept.

6. Web Platform Installer will install IIS Media Services and prompt you when complete. Click Finish.

Upgrade to Focus v4.1
Begin by extracting the ZIP file that you have received from Panopto then locate and run PanoptoWeb.exe. The Welcome to Panopto screen will load.
On the Destination Folders screen the installer will automatically load your previous configuration. We recommend that you leave the default settings. If you would like to change storage locations, please move all of your files from the cc_data\sessions and cc_data\video folder first and then re-run the PanoptoWeb.exe and reference the new location.
Depending upon your previous configuration, the Folder locations in the screenshot below may be different than what you have configured. Since these settings are customizable, just ensure that they are pointing the previously configured location and click Next when finished.

On the Application settings screen the installer will automatically load your previous configuration. We recommend that you leave the default settings. If the name of your Panopto server has changed, change the Web and Data server names here. If you wish to relocate your SQL databases to another server, please do that first and then re-run the PanoptoWeb.exe installer. Click Next when finished.

Before continuing, you must test the connection with credentials in order for the Panopto installation to proceed. Choose Windows Authentication or enter SQL credentials and click "Test Connection". We recommend upgrading with an account that has DB Owner permissions on the PanoptoDB_3 database.
Once the connection has been verified, click Next.

On the Mail and Support settings screen, enter the necessary information to specify an SMTP server for Panopto to use. SMTP will be used to send user login information and notification to users when recordings are complete. A support e-mail address must be specified and all e-mails will be sent from that e-mail address. Click Next when finished.

The Panopto installer will automatically create the Domain LDAP string and specify the Domain Name. If you wish to use LDAP for authentication change these settings, if necessary, and click Next.

Click Install to begin the installation of Panopto Focus v4.0.

When installation is finished, click Finish to close the install.

Upgrade Data Server Service
Panopto may be installed in different configurations so your Panopto Data Server may reside on another system. If that is the case, please connect to the data server and continue with these instructions.
A new requirement for Panopto Focus v4.0 is the Microsoft Expression Encoder. Expression Encoder handles smooth streaming file types and is a quick install. Please follow these steps before upgrading your Focus server. If you were previously on Panopto v4.0, you should already have Expression Encoder install. It's recommended that you check to ensure this to avoid any video encoding issues.
Install Microsoft Expression Encoder 4.0 w/SP1
2. Run installer and click Accept on the License agreement page.

3. Do not enter a product key. A key is not required and Panopto will only utilize the features that do not require a license key. Click Next.

4. Decide whether you would like to participate in the Customer Experience Improvement Program by checking Yes or No. This is not related to Panopto and is not required to use Panopto in any way. Click Next.

5. Expression Encoder 4 should be checked. You may click Options to change the directory where Expression Encoder is installed, but it is not required. Click Install

6. When installation completes, click Finish.

Upgrade Panopto Data Server for Focus v4.1
1. Locate and run PanoptoDataService.exe.
2. On the Destination Folders screen the installer will automatically load your previous configuration. We recommend that you leave the default settings. If you would like to change storage locations, please move all of your files from the cc_data\sessions and cc_data\video folder first and then re-run the PanoptoDataService.exe and reference the new location. Click Next when finished.

3. Click Install to begin the upgrade of Panopto Data Server services.

4. Once the upgrade has completed, click Finish.

No longer necessary for Panopto v4.1.
- Panopto Data Server MPEG4 Components
In previous versions of Panopto you were required to install or upgrade the Data Server MPEG4 compontents. This step is no longer necessary. The MPEG4 components installer is built into the Data Server installer. If you previously had MPEG4 compontents installed on your server, you do not need to uninstall it.
